'Spring into Summer…..'
Spring moves into Summer…..
As Spring moves into Summer I keep asking myself where is the warmer weather? I desperately want to feel some heat in my bones and feel the sun on my face and blow away the pasty winter look I have. It would also be nice to know that when you plan a location shoot it is not going to get rained off at the last minute, which seems to be happening quite a lot at the mo. I have however been keeping busy. The studio has proved a godsend and when you cant get out at least I can get some photography done in there. I have been stretching myself and experimenting with different lighting set ups and having some fun along the way. My long suffering husband hates it when I say ‘I have an idea; or do you think….’ Recently he painted a back drop for me in the brightest blue we could find. Why well I had a model visiting the studio who had the brightest pinkest hair – Mz Bones – and I had the idea of doing a shoot as though she were in a photo booth. Not as easy as you would think! Not so bad for me, but Mz Bones said that pulling faces for an hour was the hardest work she had done in a long time, albeit a lot of fun….
I have however, in between showers managed to do a bit outside, and even though it was dry, boy was it cold. I was wrapped up nice and toastie but that sort of look doesn’t cut it when you are shooting fashion so the poor model has to brave it and as soon as one set is finished she gets wrapped up in her coat while we get ready for the next set. The trick really is to be uber organized and ply them with cakes and tea…..surprising how hard a model will work when there is a promise of carrot cake. That said, all models work hard and credit must go to them as without their sheer hard work we as photographers would not get the shots we want.
Another day outside on a windy day and this time the models were the four legged variety and not as easy to work with despite being promised a bucket of oats and a haynet. Horses like all animals can be difficult to work with, but with patience and determination we got there in the end.
Back in the studio and I had a fab shoot with a model who travelled 4 hours from Wales to shoot with me. She was one of the nicest people I had met but with a name like Silk, would I expect anything else. We talked through my ideas and looked at my mood board and then we set to work. She was a joy and a pleasure and together we created some fab shots. I cannot wait until we work together again.
It is hard to believe that we are still only in April, as this year so far seems to have been really busy. I have been fortunate in working with and meeting some really lovely people and even managed to nail three magazine publications so things must be on the up.
Now what I really really want is some warm weather, to explore more location shoots, and to get out and about in the beautiful countryside.
