End of the year review

I cannot believe that we are now into December and another year is almost done. For me personally it has been a busy and productive year. Having my own studio opened up new opportunities for me allowing me to work with even more amazing people. But not only that it gave me the opportunity to experiment more and hone my skills, further developing my style. I can be more creative, adventurous and imaginative. I can custom the studio sets to suit the shoot and I can create some fabulous looks. Two of the lovely models I have worked with this year have gone on to bigger and better things, winning national beauty competitions and gaining parts in TV dramas. Perhaps I played a small part on their journey in much the same way as they played a huge part in mine.

On a recent holiday to Northumberland, I managed to grab some amazing landscape shots, which was not that hard given that the scenery was just stunning. However, I think I can honestly say I will never make a dedicated landscape photographer as I find he early mornings to grab that best light to daunting especially when it is cold and wet outside. Give me a warm studio anyday! But I do enjoy taking landscape shots as they are a break from studio work and something completely different.

As well as studio work, I have been out and about doing some location fashion work, and once I got the hang of lighting tricky situations, I managed to complete quite a few location shoots. One was even during the evening using the shop windows as the main light source.

December for me is a month of reflection and planning. I like to take stock of where I have been, my successes and failures and build on that to plan for the next year. I have quite a few exciting things coming up and I cannot wait to tell you all about them – but they will have to wait until the New Year.

For now I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year and I will be back in 2016 meeting lots more wonderful people and creating more creative pieces of work.

Love Laura x
