2014 and New Challenges

23rd December 2013

Well 2013 has nearly come to an end and I find myself at this time of the year wrapping things up (literally!!) and making plans for the next year. 2013 was a reasonably good year photographically and I had some success in competitions and international salons. I feel I have grown and developed as a photographer and in my skills. After 2 years of running a Flickr group of 52 Week Challenges, I have decided to retire from that leaving it open for someone else to organize. It was a worthwhile project to do and I met (virtually) some lovely people and I hope encouraged them to get out and about with their cameras.

For myself, I have several projects to keep me busy throughout the coming year and if I manage them all it will be a busy year. I aim to strive forwards with my submission for my ARPS with the Royal Photographic Society; I aim to develop my photographic style of model photography and I look forward to working with some great models – new ones and some old familiar faces; I would like to do some more architecture photography as I feel I have neglected this a bit over recent months and maybe combine that with a bit of landscape photography possibly seascapes using a slow shutter speed. And if that was not enough I aim to start a new personal project which, will not only challenge me photographically but mentally as well – in 2014 I aim to ‘Photograph 100 Strangers.’  This has to be portraits of people I have never met before and with their consent. This means I am going to have to put on a charm offensive and talk to and approach complete strangers. Something I am not overly confident about, but I feel it is time now to stretch myself and give myself challenges and goals way outside my comfort zone.

So we head onwards and upwards into another year of challenges, disappointments and successes and all these make us the people we are. Life is a huge learning curve and everyday we face new adventures which we should embrace and grasp and I for one hope to make 2014 ‘MY YEAR!’

Happy New Year Everyone x
